I received an e-mail newsletter in company’s inbox from Hotelex Shanghai about its 18th Shanghai International Hospitality Equipment & Supply Exco.
The exhibition is staged at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), which will start from 31st March till 3rd April 2009.
In the e-mail, 1 particular event caught my eyes. Guess what? They will be organizing the China Barista Championship Final (CNC) and it is the only competition authorized by the World Barista Championship Association.
Fifteen winners from the Beijing, Wuhan, Chengdu, Shanghai and Guangzhou regions will gather together to compete to qualification at the World Barista Championship (WBC) as the representative of China.
Also, I found out that this is the 7th edition for CNC. So where is our Malaysia Barista Championship and our winner to represent the country at the WBC? Not sure if I am mistaken, there is 1 competition held last year here in Malaysia but the event will quickly set up at the end in order to produce a winner for a presentative at the world stage. This is what I read in a coffee forum.
Anyway, with such progress at other Asian countries like China and our neighbouring countries, Singapore & Thailand, we Malaysians really need to catch up with the rest. Our Ipoh White Coffee may be well-known to all and make us unique but western coffee is a different league after all.
